Price Versus Value

Why price under-records a transaction.

Research: Under active modeling or analysis. Conclusions are provisional.

Price records the amount exchanged. It does not record whether the transaction saved time, transferred knowledge, created future income, reduced risk, improved infrastructure, increased productive capacity, or imposed costs on parties outside the exchange.

Consequence

Two transactions with identical prices can have opposite effects on system prosperity, and conventional accounting cannot distinguish them. Any optimisation performed on price alone will therefore be indifferent between them.

Proposal

Record price and a structured value layer. Keep settlement conventional; add accounting.
